Saramsa
Gardens
Saramsa Garden also called Ipecac Garden is an initiative by
the forest department. It was set up by the then forest manager
Bhim Bahadur Pradhan, an ardent Botanist in the year 1922. This
garden is known for preserving several Orchids and many tropical
& temperate plants. Spread across the six acres of land, one
can see Ipecac plantations growing throughout the park and hence
the name. The garden abounds with various fruits and vegetables
like pineapple, guava, varieties of oranges & litchis and
also nurtures various medicinal plants & flowers.
Project Brief
For the execution of this project, an area of six acres was
chosen by the forest department 14 kms far from Gangtok and in
proximity with Rani Khola & the forticulture center. For
making this garden an avid picnic and recreational spot, the
architectural beauty was paid meticulous attention to detail.
Moreover, to create natural ambiance, fruits and ipecac trees,
various tropical & medicinal plants were also grown. Today,
this garden is considered an excellent tourist spot in the
Sikkim state.
